Rick Joyce has over 40 years’ experience as an accomplished Cybersecurity educator and professional. He currently teaches at Radford University and has taught at Landmark College, Montana Tech, and James Cook University in Australia.
Joyce, along with two colleagues from Bell Labs, co-founded a software company specializing in network management tools for the telecommunications industry. In three years, they grew the company to $3M in annual revenue and negotiated its sale to Warburg Pincus IT portfolio company, 1996 – 1998. In 1998, Joyce was CEO of IGS, a $20M annual revenue software solutions company. Joyce is highly regarded in cybersecurity and supervised the software development group for the AT&T/Bell Laboratories network management platform. This group of 20 developers designed, developed and deployed OSS software that monitored telemetry from more than 1M network devices. As a Software Developer, Joyce embedded systems developer for the GE family of programmable controllers user for factory and mill automation. He has been published in numerous times and continues to do work in research.
Before becoming an entrepreneur and professor, Joyce proudly served two years as a US military sergeant with the 56th tactical fighter squadron out of MacDill AFB, Tampa Florida, followed by 2 years in a joint-forces combat group with the 4th Infantry out of Fort Carson, Colorado.
In addition to his various accomplishments, Joyce sailed solo on a wooden sailboat he made himself, traveling 15,000 km from New York Harbor to northern Queensland, Australia.
